  • Serves as the lead staff specialist in safety for all farm locations.
  • Develops and implements procedures within the organization that effectively control accident and health exposures in the workplace.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal safety related laws, as well as company policies and procedures.

Duties will include:

  • Develop and implement safety policies/procedures in accordance with State and Federal Regulations. Drives the Safety Department’s activities and involvement in all non-support aspects of the operation to promote a safe work environment, which enhances the operational aspects of the business.
  • Assesses new developments in the health and safety field that may have application to the company’s operations and presents them to the management.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in federal and state safety laws likely to affect the company.
  • Ensures all records required are updated and accurate to prove compliance with all state and federal laws and programs in the areas of OSHA and DOT.  Communication with all levels of management in Live Operations, state and federal compliance bodies as necessary.
  • Conduct a minimum of four farm safety visits/audits on a weekly basis and make suggestions to correct deficiencies within live production to stay in compliance with federal regulations. Provides follow-up to reconcile identified deficiencies.
  • Plan, implement and coordinate an accident prevention program to enhance our operational efficiencies.
  • Design, plan and implement a supervisory accident prevention training program which will ensure all supervisors are trained in prevention, reporting and investigation of accidents and injuries.
  • Coordinate with the Medical Department to ensure all work related injured employee reach MMI.
  • Coordinate monthly safety committee meetings to ensure that corrective action is performed on all deficiencies reported by committee members and the supervisors.
  • Provide a review of all safety related topics for the company’s new hire orientation, to ensure new employees are introduced to our goals of a safe working environment.
  • Daily interaction with live operations employees to incorporate the needs of business and compliance while maintaining effective working relationship.
  • Prepare any reports regarding live production safety as necessary.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality of all information.

To be considered for this role:

  • B.S. degree in a Safety relate field of study with four or more years’ experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in a live production environment is required (swine, beef, dairy, poultry)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and a basic understanding of workers compensation is required.
  • Strong investigative, reading, analytical, and communicative skills are required.
  • An agriculture background is preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals (i.e. CFR regulations), technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence and procedural/training manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred, but not required.
  • Must be willing to travel to various company sites – limited overnight travel involved
